How to start your day right? With 13 simple steps

Do you know that the way you start the day has an impact on your whole day? It’s important to have a good morning and to start the day in the right way. Whether you have a morning routine already or you never gave it a thought, have a look at this list and create the perfect morning routine that will allow you to start the day right and clear the path to a productive and better day overall.

So how to start your day right?

Here’s what to do to start your day right. Ideally you should do all of them, but as a starter or if you don’t have much time, choose at least 9 and stick with them for a while before adding more. The first 5, for example, won’t take more than 5 minutes in total so you should be able to do them even on very rushed mornings.

1. Be thankful 🥰

Gratitude will give you good vibes to start the day with. Good energy first thing in the morning is a recipe for a much better mood during a long and busy day. So before you get out of bed, take a deep breath (or two) and take a few seconds for a simple ‘Thanks’ thought.

2. No distractions 📵

When you wake up, don’t rush to check your phone. Until you officially start your day, leave your phone on silent mode or, like me, on airplane mode. (Don’t you sleep with the phone on airplane mode? It’s a great way to avoid both distractions and radiation, you should totally do it!)

3. Make your bed 🛏

It may sound strange and unrelated but believe me, making your bed will make you feel more ready for the day. That’s just how it works. Try and see for yourself.

4. Drink in peace ☕

Whether it’s tea, coffee, water or juice that you usually drink in the morning (I strongly advise water, but it’s up to you), taking a few quiet minutes to sip your favourite beverage will help you start the day when you are calmer and more focused.

5. Start your day with a song 🎶

Starting the day with your favourite songs in the background is always a good idea – It will let you start your day with good energy and great mood.

6. Time your morning tasks ⏱

Make your daily morning tasks more fun by setting a specific time to complete them. Decide, for example, to spend only 10 minutes on washing dishes and loading the washing machine. You can either set a timer or even better – use 2-3 songs that you know will take about 10 minutes to end.

7. Start your day right by organizing it 📖

If you want to have a good schedule, it only makes sense to set some time to make that schedule, right? While you should ideally have your day’s schedule ready the night before, taking a few minutes every morning to look at it and make some last moment changes will help you get into an organized shape right when you start your day.

8. Start with the most important task ✅

By doing the most important task first you are not only clearing your mind but also give yourself that feeling of accomplishment which will affect the rest of the day in a positive way.

9. Do something you like 🎨

Especially if you have small kids, I’m sure you have hobbies you just can’t find the time for anymore. So why not dedicate a few minutes each morning for your hobbies? Even 10 minutes will make a difference. That way, you have something fun to look forward to when you wake up in the morning AND you get your hobbies back!

10. Exercise 🤸‍♀️

Did you know you only need 10 minutes of exercise to make a difference? 10 minutes is pretty doable even for a busy homemaker, don’t you agree? You can choose your favourite workout from jogging to yoga or stretches. If you need some guidance, you can always follow a YouTube video or download an app of 10 minutes exercise sessions.

11. Think 🧩

Don’t forget to get your brain focused too by spending 10 minutes solving a crossword, a sudoku or a jigsaw puzzle (or any other sort of brain exercising you like). If you absolutely hate these things (really?!) You can meditate instead.

12. Freshen up 🧼

Haviation g a warm shower in the morning, even a very short one, will wake you up and give your day a fresh start. If you don’t have time for an actual shower, at least make sure you wash your hands and face, brush your teeth and comb your hair.

13. Eat breakfast 🥗

Eating a healthy breakfast is a good way to start the day. It gives you energy and keeps you efficient until lunchtime. It doesn’t have to take long – make a list of quick breakfast ideas and choose one for each morning. You can go with breakfasts you can make the night before such as overnight oats or a salad, or choose quick meals like sandwiches, smoothie bowls or toasts. You can even have pancakes ready in a moment using this recipe.
